After months of preparation, Team Prague boarded American Airlines Flight 732 on a warm Thursday evening in June and settled back for the long journey. The flight offered various distractions, but our minds never detoured far from the week ahead of us. We were excited to see what our kind and merciful Heavenly Father had in store for us!
Jake Hunt, our host missionary, appeared in the crowd as we exited from customs at the Prague airport. After packing all our luggage in his van, we left the airport for Jake’s house in Prague 6. All eyes focused on the ten-story high rises that peppered the landscape as were traveled toward the city, utopian leftovers of communist subjugation.
Following a good night’s rest, we joined Faith Community Church (FCC) members at a local park for a cookout. Meat is always on the menu in Prague, and we were fed some of the largest sausages in existence. Later, we rehearsed our plan for a mini-Vacation Bible School at FCC on Saturday evening. The church meets in a train station that provides office space, a worship area, and some small classrooms for the children. God blessed our teaching time richly as we studied Joshua and the battle of Jericho. The children also learned some of Sovereign Grace’s VBS songs and memorized Joshua 1:9.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
When their parents arrived to take them home, they were greeted with a short concert by the children and recitation of their Bible memory work.
