Carl Trueman on the Reformation: Part Eleven

Carl Trueman on the Reformation: Part Ten ]

In lecture 11, Dr. Trueman completes his discussion of Luther at the Diet of Worms. Luther stands behind his writings and refuses to recant. The Spanish delegates demand that he be burned at the stake, but Luther is immediately whisked away, leaving the room in chaos.

Luther now begins his incognito life as Sir Georg in the Wartburg Castle, translating the Bible into German. Malancthon, Karlstadt, and Zwilling take leadership of the Reformation, reforming the mass and revising the liturgy.

However, students in Wittenburg take to destroying things, putting the Reformation in Germany at risk as chaos breaks out. Luther secretly visits the town and is disturbed by the violence. Eventually, he returns and takes control of the helm once more in order to reestablish peace.
